The Fraser Valley Summer Games squad showed very well in their opening exhibitions games leading up the the Summer Games in July. The Fraser Valley team played in the Whitecaps Club series and went a perfect 6-0.
The Fraser Valley team got better with each game as they became more comfortable with the system of play and used to their teammates. In the opening game they took on Calgary SWU and slowly built a 4 goal lead only to give one back late for the 4-1 win. In game two, Fraser Valley took on part of the Vancouver-Squamish Summer Games team and looked a little flat but were able to manage a 2-0 win. In the final Saturday game, they played the Lower Island 1996 team. Fraser Valley really struggled to work as a cohesive unit and only held a slim 1 goal lead at the half. In the second half the Fraser Valley proceeded to pump goals in and came out with a 6-2 win.
Sunday morning the opposition was the T.S.S. 97's who were handled easily for a 5-0 win. The final game would see the Fraser Valley play the other half of the Vancouver-Squamish Summer Games team. The Fraser Valley started to show real signs of working a a single unit and was able to counter dangerously and limit opposition chances from in close. With the score 1-0 at the half the best soccer was yet to come. In the second half the Fraser Valley really started to execute well despite fatigue and were able to add one more for the 2-0 win.
The Fraser Valley squad will continue to play exhibitions leading up to the games and is looking to improve their play even more in the six weeks leading up to the Summer Games.
